The Vancouver International Film Festival is a 25-year-old cultural institution and is recognized as one of the premiere film festivals in North America. It also has a highly regarded reputation as a serious "filmmakers" festival, in addition to its "grass-roots" reputation. It has made great strides integrating the web into its environment and has an excellent online film-guide and ticket purchasing system.

This foundation presents a natural opportunity for integrating mobile technologies to build an entirely new environment that would not be possible with either entity on its own. The VIFF has a content base that is both accessible and deep in ways few other cultural events can match. It also faces continual challenges in connecting its audience - to the festival as well as to each other - that we will demonstrate can be overcome with the innovative application of technology in the mobile space.
