Friending Mother Nature - 2011

Mobile Muse has just activated an exciting new project in partnership with the Pacific Parklands Foundation to pioneer effective new forms of public engagement related to natural capital appreciation and growth. The first phase of "Friending Mother Nature" has begun and runs through the end of 2012.

Together with the UBC MAGIC Lab and Vancouver start-up company Sense Tecnic, MUSE will be developing and implementing an unprecedented program of mobile-social challenge-reward apps that enable participants to undertake real-world activities that contribute in meaningful ways to the regional parks system. Completing activities earns virtual points which can be translated into social capital, academic credit, goods, services and even income. Such public engagement is therefore "accountable", activating a new kind of civic marketplace where community organizations of all kinds can publish activities benefiting the public good, and average citizens can accomplish these for appropriate recognition and reward.
